In a noirish modern re-imagining of H P Lovecraft's classic The Call of Cthulhu, one determined police detective investigates a series of horrific cult murders, only to discover that - in an age when technological marvels outstrip the wildest nightmares of the past - there may be worse to fear than even the return of a godlike horror from Earth's prehistory.

I have always found the Cthulhu mythos an interesting one, and I was attracted to this comic, which puts a modern, gritty detective spin on the tale. Arriving at a house to investigate a possible kidnapping, two detective uncover a sinister cultish plot to do dastardly things in the name of Cthulhu.

I don’t read many comics, but I did enjoy the realistic style of the art, and while I initially felt like there was a lack of dialogue, after reflecting on it, I realised that the use of ‘silence’ added something to the uncertainty, and the uneasiness of the atmosphere of the comic.

Overall I thought that this was an interesting start to a new series, with enough intrigue to keep a reader hooked. Fans of HP Lovecraft, and gritty comics will enjoy this read.

I received a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
